NxEW Mixtape: Episode 1 Redux
Last week I posted Episode 1 of the NXEW mixtape. Sadly it turns out my copy of Garageband is old and doesn't do chapters. So I'm going to upgrade it but AK17 came to the rescue, embedding links in the podcast and recording an intro so I'm reposting it, with it's own feed.
Before I get to the links a couple of questions
1) I am resistant to the idea of posting on iTunes but I've heard from alot of people who think that we should - let me know if you have any thoughts on this
2) Does the m4a file format work for you or does there need to be an Mp3 option as well?
3) Whether you are a writer for this site or not, if you feel like recording an intro for the podcast, please record and MP3 and email it to me ( beach.justin at gmail.com )
So as I said on Friday, with the new links included
This is the first episode of what I'm calling the NxEW Mixtape Podcast. It is 60 minutes of music without commentary (no talking just music.) It is a mix of old stuff and new stuff but I hope you enjoy. Comments/suggestions are more than welcome.
I'd like to thank everyone who allowed me to use their music for this (as well as future episodes.) The response so far has been enormous and episode 2 is already taking shape nicely. Please support the artists who make this possible by buying some music, going to shows, buying t-shirts and otherwise showing them some love.
download the M4a
download the mp3
or
download the torrent (and please seed)

I'd just like to add that if you have a Mac and want to have the files (or any other file, for that matter) go in the podcast section of iTunes or your iPod rather than the music section, you can get a script here. If Justin goes to iTunes this won't be an issue, but if the decision comes down against, this will be potentially useful:
http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=readdaspodcast
And regarding the iTunes, I would argue in favour simply because for better or worse, the iTunes store is the way most people find new podcasts, and it's also the most efficient way to subscribe to one, and, short of using the above hack, the only way I know of to have the podcast actually go into the "podcast" section of iTunes and iPods (I don't know about other systems, so maybe a Zune user could fill us in). I just think not using iTunes automatically reduces the overall usability, not to mention the potential audience size, especially those who might not know about the blog but are just looking for another podcast that covers Canadian indie music.
*EDIT* OK, I just downloaded it, and the thing opened right in my Podcast section. Is the same true for anyone else?
Much better! Also, I think iTunes is a great idea. Lots of people use it (I think 100% of people I know use iTunes) and if you want to reach a wide audience it's probably the best option. Those are my thoughts, yes.
I think iTunes is the way to go, but then again, I'm biased, and if things aren't pushed at me, I tend to forget about them....
I tried, iTunes said no. They didn't specify but I think it was copyright related (I have a collection of emails saying it's ok to use the stuff I use but Apple doesn't know that.)
