Who Should Win Polaris?

Are you a Polaris Juror? Neither am I. Let's play pretend though. If you were a polaris juror who would you be looking at for the prize? You don't have to pick just one (yet). Make a list in the comments section, or reply on Twitter, or send an email to NorthbyEastWest@gmail.com - from that I'll make a long, long list and then we'll work at shortening it down as the actual Polaris Music Prize draws closer.

We'll skip the full list of Rules (cause it's not the real thing) but we'll stick with the following:

The winner will be judged on artistic merit.

The artist must be Canadian.

They must have released a full length album between June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009.

So, who do you think?

On Edit: Below is the list of albums that have been mentioned to date (either in the comments section, via email, on twitter, or via facebook.) A few were left off because they did not qualify (came out too early, not Canadian etc). Anything to add?

Am I allowed to play, even if I am a Polaris juror? I'm definitely voting for Black Hat Brigade, even though they have zero chance of winning, and Charles Spearin, even though his chances of winning are essentially zero.

On a more probable note: Handsome Furs and Coeur de Pirate

Not sure about my fifth vote yet.

Van Gaalen, Handsome Furs, and Mother Mother should definitely be on there. But the Polaris is so random, it's anyone's guess.

Don't decide too quickly. This is our long list. When Polaris announces their long list then we'll start voting on the short list.

Fat chance, but The CFL Sessions gets top honours in my book. In reality (ie, people who might actually win) I'd have to say Chad VanGaalen was the only one that really knocked my socks off.

Sunparlour Players - Wave North, and, I might also suggest that Patrick Watson, Pink Mountaintops and Rah Rah (not sure if its eligble) should be in the discussion...

Realistically, I'd be pretty pleased with either a Bruce Peninsula or Chad VanGaalen win...
