Places and Songwriters Named in the Great Canadian Song Quest
For weeks the folks at CBC Radio 2 have been seeking nominations for places and then votes for places and artists to write about those places. Now it's all settled, the places and the artists have been announced and the artists have four weeks to write their songs. You will get a chance to hear them all on CBC Radio 2 Morning and Radio 2 rive on November 23. Oh Susanna is writing about Tofino, British Columbia
Jay Sparrow will sing about Hoodoos/Badlands, Alberta
The Deep Dark Woods will have a song about Good Time Charlie’s at The Plains, Saskatchewan
Chantal Kreviazuk's song will be about Waskada, Manitoba
Hawksley Workman will have a new song about Algonquin Park, Ontario
Martha Wainwright will sing the priases of The Black Sheep Inn, Quebec
David Myles about Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick
Catherine MacLellan will take on Singing Sand Beach, Prince Edward Island
Joel Plaskett will have something about The Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia
Hey Rosetta! will sing nice things about Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland
Dana Sipos gets Tuktoyaktuk Pingos, Northwest Territories
Kim Barlow will write a song about Dawson City, Yukon (I thought she already had a few...?)
and Lucie Idlout will tell us about The Road to Nowhere, Nunavut (pretty sure Talking Heads covers aren't allowed)
