Album Review -- Kyra and Tully

In what would reveal itself to be a fitting coincidence, Wildlife (In And Out Of The City), the latest release from Kingston folk duo Kyra and Tully, found it's way into my speakers on a pretty swell Sunday afternoon.

From the opening acoustic strums of 'We've Been Underground' onward, the pair have assembled a lovely group of songs that manage to feel at once stripped down and fully realized. The lyrical tone throughout is unabashedly personal and positive, finding meaning in the simplest of subject matter like the small town outing chronicled in 'July Fireworks'.

It's the confidence with which the duo wears their heart on their sleeve, pants and any garment in between that makes it all work. Well...that and a steady diet of the kind of harmonies that could turn the Auto Trader into a pretty great song.

The record closes with what has to be the hidden track of the year, featuring a guest vocalist that punctuates the intimate and entirely likable vibe that is Wildlife (In And Out Of The City).

Kyra & Tully release their latest record, Wildlife (In And Out Of The City), this Saturday, November 21st at Sydenham Street United Church with Jenn Grant and guest Bruce Cockburn. Doors at 6:30pm. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door (children 12 and under free).
