End Hits closing its doors

I'm sad to say that another independent record store is closing. Yesterday night, End Hits announced that they will be closing their doors on March 13th - what would be the store's fourth anniversary.

End Hits opened in 2006 about a month after Record Runner, a go-to spot for tickets, dvds, and records, shut down to make way for a condo development. During its four-year run, the store was consistently voted Best Independent Record/CD Store in the Ottawa Xpress readers poll. The Ottawa Citizen reported that the store's "CD sales have dropped 30 to 40 per cent from their peak, and revenue from sales of concert tickets and vinyl records were not enough to keep the store afloat." End Hits is the seventh record store in the Ottawa region to shut down in the past four years.

From their myspace page:

As technology advances further and faster than ever, younger generations of music listeners are no longer growing up with the association of a tangible object as an important part of that experience. In Ottawa alone, End Hits will be the seventh record store to close in the last four years. The digital age is having an undeniable impact on the music industry and we weren’t able to avoid the inevitable.

Farewell, End Hits. You will be missed.

that's too bad. Ottawa really should have more of a music scene than it seems to. so many young people... not playing instruments?

Sad news, I go there everytime I'm in Ottawa. Looks like I don't go to Ottawa enough.
