Juno Nomination are Out

The Juno Nominations are out and many of the things that annually disappoint me with the Junos remain including no one I can get very enthusiastic about in the 'Fan Choice Awards. Still there are some interesting bits and pieces including:

Classified getting a nod for Single of the Year for "Anybody Listening"

K'Naan getting a nod for Artist of the Year

Blue Rodeo and Metric both got a nod for Group of the Year

the Arkells are up for New Group of the Year

Metric, Joel Plaskett and K'Naan for Songwriter of the Year

Charles Spearin's Happiness Project is up for Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year

Bell Orchestre and the Hylozoists for Instrumental Album of the Year

the now defunct Thunderheist is up for Dance Recording of the Year

Roots & Traditional Album of the Year (Solo) has nominations to Corb Lund and Bahamas

Roots & Traditional Album of the Year (Group) has nods to the Great Lake Swimmers, Carolyn Mark & NQ Arbuckle and the Good Lovelies,

Alex Cuba is up for World Music Album of the Year

The Arcade Fire is up for music DVD of the year

and there are a few categories that are really good inlcuding:

Video of the Year - Beast, the Most Serene Republic, Classified, Serena Ryder and Land of Talk

Rap Recording of the Year - K'naan, K-Os, Drake, Classified, Big Page Drake & UGO Crew

and of course the Alternative Album of the Year (though I no longer know what it's an alternative to...??)

Adult Album of the Year - 1977, Amy Millan, Cuff the Duke, Howie Beck and Joel Plaskett

Alternative Album of the Year - Handsome Furs, Japandroids, Julie Doiron, Metric and Tegan & Sara

The biggest shocker was Francophone Album of the Year where neither Coeur de pirate nor Malijube got a mention.

The full list is here. The Juno awards are still iffy, but at least there are some people to pull for!
