Aidan Denison

Like many others who read this blog, I was exposed to the music of so many great Canadian artists through CBC Radio 3. Yet it was not until my 2nd year of university that I attended my first concert. It was at Kingston’s amazing Grad Club (Top 10 venue in Canada) that I witnessed the soulful music of Jon-Rae and The River followed by the hard-rockin’ Constantines, attending live shows has since become my favorite past-time.

After graduating from university I relocated myself to Canada’s west coast to the Mt. Pleasant neighborhood of Vancouver. Bands like The Pack A.D., Said the Whale, The Railway Club, and the proximity to R3 headquarters filled the ‘Pros’ column in my descision to move to Vancouver.

I do not profess to possess an expanse of musical knowledge or capability, nor am I a talented journalist. Playing 3rd trumpet in my high school band tops the list of my musical accomplishments and most musical references in Exclaim! cannot be found in my iTunes library. I am an amateur in all senses of the word, but I am an amateur in Vancouver who loves to discover great new music and share it with others. My goal is to paint you a picture of my experiences exploring emerging music in Vancouver and Canada. Besides learning that my spelling and grammar is atrocious, I hope the few people who will read my blog contributions will also learn something new about the already rich music scene in Vancouver and Canada.
