Christine McAvoy Christine ( @christinemcavoy on Twitter) was born and raised in tiny Port Colborne, Ontario and from about 13 years old and on she knew she wanted to be a photographer... Her love of live music photography stemmed from having nothing else to do during her high school years but being official photographer for her friend’s bands playing in dirty basement bars in St. Catharines. Then it was on to Ryerson University for a B.F.A. in Photography Studies, and after 5 years in Toronto and MANY musical friends later (several of whom found refuge on her couch while touring) having a camera in her hand at shows was assumed. About a year ago the move was made to Vancouver, BC and about 98% of her friends out west are in bands: Said The Whale, Hey Ocean, Dan Mangan, The Zolas, Maurice, Nat Jay, Hannah Georgas, The Racoons, Shad, Adaline, Laura Smith, Adrian Glynn, Cory Woodward, The Prettiest Face in Town, DRMHLLR, James Lamb, Topless Gay Love Tekno Party...you know...to name a few... She is easily recognizable at most local Vancouver venues as the tall, curly-haired one, with the camera glued to her face, multi-tasking (singing, dancing and photographing) front row center. When she’s not doling out her photography talents for no money, her work ends up in places like Vancouver Magazine, Xtra West, the Georgia Straight and many other random publications.
