McCallum I’ve been working within the
music industry for 20 years. Manager, promoter. Ten years at Universal
Music in marketing and publicity. Five years as head of publicity for
NXNE and at the same time I was Director of Media Relations at True
North Records until Bernie Finkelstein sold it in Dec. 07. 2 years as
a promoter at the Purple Onion Nightclub, Oshawa which doesn’t
exist anymore. I have my own PR & Events company called The Next Level. I live in Whitby ON. I lived in Toronto for a decade and am raising my 7 year old son here on my own. Durham Region has so much potential. It’s just wasted. There is SO MUCH talent here it’s just crazy. Durham Region resides beside Lake Ontario and the 401. We are on the way for any band playing Toronto and off to Ottawa, or Kingston or Montreal or vice versa. We have a huge brand new venue in Oshawa with the General Motors Centre but they hardly book any acts and don’t want any input. We have a handful of clubs that would love to book current major acts, cool hot indie bands but we don’t have the scene to support it. I know why, and I want to get this area blossoming so bands can play and the people will know they are here and come see them. |
