Dala has begun Canada/U.S Tour

The music of Toronto duo Dala is such soothing folk pop that it would turn almost any frown, upside down. Dala is made up of best friends Amanda Walther and Sheila Carabine, whose voices combine or intertwine to form some of the sweetest vocal harmonies heard in a longtime.

They have brought their acoustic pop music to growing audiences across Canada, and toured with Jann Arden, Matthew Good, and others. Dala's last two albums , 2006's "Angels and Thieves" and 2007's "Who Do You Think You Are" earned them a total of four Canadian Folk Music Award nominations. Their videos have been featured on Bravo, CMT, Much More Music and MTV, which shows the broad appeal their music has.

Dala’s newest album “Everyone Is Someone” was released in June 2009. The songs are melodic, with catchy lyrics, and the vocals are a treat to any listener. The first single, “Levi Blues” is a throwback to the songs of the 50's and early 60's. From the very first line, "I've been waiting for a guy like you; you've been waiting to be my guy too", fans will be hooked. Another top choice is "Hockey Sweater", which has more fantastic vocals adding some gentle percussion.

Last week, Dala began their 2010 Canada/U.S. tour with a heavy schedule of over 40 shows this year. Listen to their music and check out the videos, because there is a good chance it'll make you smile.

New Video: Acres Of Lions - Dance Sequence

Victoria's Acres Of Lions have just released a new music video for the song "Dance Sequence" from their debut album entitled "Working". Directed by Brian Dutkewich, the video was shot in an old warehouse in Vancouver's lower east side and includes some amazing dancing by the Now or Never break dance crew.

As a side note, the Now or Never crew has been selected to perform at the closing ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympics next year in Vancouver.

Entire Cities Quit Social Media

What a great headline! It sounds earth shattering, it sounds like something dramatic going down online. It's deceptive though. What it really means is that the band Entire Cities is going to stop sending out messages via Myspace, Facebook and other social media sites. From their Myspace blog:
"
Simplify, simplify, simplify.

I'm not doing any more facebook, myspace, et al. spam. I can't take it anymore. We've got a mailing list now for all the info anyone could want. Just drop us a line here or to entirecities@gmail.com. Let us know what city you're in so we don't send you stuff you don't care about."
Simplification is great, this is actually extremely bold and brave though. In an age where you are competing for the attention of music fans with every other band in the world, sending out your information through fewer channels is risky business.

Again the key information here is that if you like Entire Cities and want to keep up with them you should get in touch with entirecities@gmail.com and let them know what city you're in. (I'm on the list so I'll do my best to pass stuff along from here.)

On Edit:Entire Cities want to make it clear that they are not quitting the internet from their updated Myspace Blog:
Also like our hero Avril Lavigne: Complicated.

Okay, I need to clarify: like our hero, Shane McGowan, we aren't quitting a damn thing.

My last post created a bit of a stir after our friends on NXEW http://www.nxew.ca/2009/07/entire-cities-quit-social-media.html may have misunderstood our intentions a bit. Then Twitter got ahold of it and sudden we're quitting the interweb altogether.

Not so! We're still going to be updating our myspace, posting songs, blogging, and sending out facebook invites to everyone in our group and on our page. What I won't be doing is trying to use all sites for everything all at once.

Facebook is good for inviting people to stuff. Myspace is good for posting songs. And an e-mail list is good for actual communication. We're having a pro (http://twitter.com/fallsemo) overhaul our website (right now it looks like a geocities smashing pumpkins fansite) so that it can function as a portal for all of this stuff. For the time being, we're muddling through as best as we can so we can keep in touch with people in the effective, least offensive ways possible, 'cause we like you.

n00b-ily yours, Simon.
