I Still Love My CDs!

I was recently given an HMV gift card and I thought to myself that it's been ages since I stepped into that store! I tend to buy my cds from used cd stores where the most I've paid for a cd is $12. Average cost is under $10 for sure! So I head into HMV with my gift card and my jaw nearly dropped when I saw the prices! Everything was close to $20!! Really?! Since when did cds cost that much, or have they always been that way? I know I wasn't really paying for it, my gift card was, but still. $20 for a cd?! A couple of my friends have sworn off buying cds and now buy all their music off iTunes. Fair enough, it is more environmentally-friendly since you buy the music without the packaging and you only pay for songs you like. So yes, a bit more wallet-friendly in that respect. Even a musician friend of mine has decided to release his album only through iTunes and he'll send the liner notes to anyone who wants them.
Call me old-fashioned, but I still prefer to buy cds. There's something about having an actual cd in your hand that came in case and that has all the liner notes, etc.

I really don't remember the last time I bought a new CD at a store. 2004? I can't justify dropping $20 for ten or so songs which I could get elsewhere for cheap or free. That said, I buy used CDs/LPs all the time, and I often buy merch directly from bands at their shows or through mail order. I don't mind doing that because at least that way, I know the band themselves probably get to keep most of the money I spent.

I bought a few vinyls recently, refreshing to say the least!

I still like CDs too! I don't buy them at stores very often, however, unless they're on sale. I generally buy them from the artists or online at a place like Amazon, where they are usually much cheaper.
